英特尔携手中科院计算所建立 oneAPI 卓越中心,加速开源软件创新

 

2021 11 12 日,北京——在今天举行的第三届中国超级算力大会(ChinaSC 2021)上,英特尔宣布与中国科学院计算技术研究所(以下简称“中科院计算所”)结成战略合作伙伴关系。英特尔和中科院计算所将共同建立中国首个 oneAPI 卓越中心,以扩大 oneAPI 对中国本土国产硬件的支持及使用 oneAPI 来开发全栈式开源软件。本次合作将加强中科院计算所在 oneAPI 行业计划中的参与力度。在这之前,中科院计算所已经加入到了 oneAPI 技术顾问委员会( Technical Advisory Boards),并对开源数据并行 C++ 编译器(DPC++)的实现做出了贡献。

四大超级技术力量——无所不在的计算、从云到边缘的基础设施、无处不在的连接、人工智能,推动着各行各业的数字化浪潮。软件在这股浪潮中发挥着关键性、引领性、基础性作用,是推动创新突破的强劲引擎。中科院计算所是中国第一个专门从事计算机科学技术综合性研究的学术机构,依托各自的优势,此次合作相得益彰。主要包括以下方面:

  • 扩展 oneAPI 以支持更多硬件:基于开放的 oneAPI 规范,双方将扩展 oneAPI 统一编程框架,从而实现对中国本土加速器的支持。这个框架将简化并行软件的开发、迁移,充分挖掘不同硬件性能。并且,双方还将共同推广合作建立的开源软件项目,并参与中国的行业标准建设。
  • 课程教学与开发双方将开展围绕 oneAPI 为核心的课件开发,并把 oneAPI 内容添加到相关在授课程以及学生动手实验中。学生可注册 oneAPI DevCloud 并完成实验,开发新的 oneAPI 应用以丰富学生动手实验案例库。
  • 探索智能交通典型应用情况下,加速计算的配置及其优化:基于共同的工作成果,中科院计算所以智能交通领域的多摄像头输入智能分析和实时车路协同控制作为典型应用开展研究,目标是通过赋能智能车辆来提高高速公路的安全性和运行效率。双方将共同推动智能交通 + 算力互联网示范应用建设,携手推进相关标准。

 

首次落地在中国的 oneAPI 卓越中心,将与全球其他 oneAPI 卓越中心一起推动 oneAPI 生态系统的发展。

Beijing, Nov. 12, 2021 – Today, Intel announces a strategic collaboration with the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS-ICT) at the China SuperComputing Conference 2021. Intel and CAS-ICT are jointly establishing the first oneAPI Center of Excellence in China to expand oneAPI support on Chinese-developed hardware and using oneAPI to develop full-stack open-source software. This increases CAS-ICT participation in the oneAPI industry initiative. It has contributed to the open-source Data Parallel C++ implementation and are engaged with the oneAPI Technical Advisory Boards.

“In the new era of accelerated digitalization revolution, Intel’s software-first approach in accelerating compute across multiple types of architectures (CPU, GPU, FPGA and other accelerators) works together with the broader open ecosystem to remove the barriers of proprietary programming lock-in, while delivering performance and productivity,” said Cindy Xie, vice president of the Software and Advanced Technology Group and the group’s general manager for China at Intel. “The establishment of the oneAPI Center of Excellence with CAS-ICT will advance co-developed open-source projects that contribute to establishing and growing open industry standards in China.”

Guangming Tan, director of HPC Research Center in ICT, said: “High-performance computing (HPC) is the main solution for solving complex problems under the digital wave. Based on our shared vision for the future of computing, we are working together to solve computing challenges by collaborating with Intel on innovating open-source software and other technologies. We will leverage our respective strengths to create new opportunities in open-source software and power the digitalization revolution.”

Four superpowers – ubiquitous compute, cloud-to-edge infrastructure, pervasive connectivity, and AI – drive the digital wave across industries. Software plays a key, leading, and fundamental role in this wave and is a strong engine for innovation and breakthroughs. CAS-ICT is the first academic establishment in China to specialize in comprehensive research on computer science and technology. This collaboration complements both CAS-ICT and Intel strengths to include the following aspects:

  • Extending oneAPI to Support Additional Hardware – Based on the open oneAPI specification, Intel and CAS-ICT will extend the oneAPI unified programming framework to support Chinas’ local accelerators. This framework will simplify the development and migration for parallel software to take full advantage of hardware performance. They will also promote the co-developed open-source projects and contribute to China industry standards.
  • Curriculum Development – Based on oneAPI technology, Intel and CAS-ICT will jointly develop and teach a oneAPI course at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Students will get access to the oneAPI DevCloud and complete experiments, developing new oneAPI applications to enrich the curriculum.
  • Exploring Accelerated Computing Configurations and Optimizations for Smart Transportation – CAS-ICT will research applications analyzing multiple camera streams at roadsides in edge infrastructures. The goal is to improve highway safety and efficiency by enabling intelligent vehicles. This research combining smart transportation + the power of computing will establish a usage model and drive related standards.

 

Intel’s first oneAPI Center of Excellence in China will work with other oneAPI Centers of Excellence around the world to drive the oneAPI ecosystem.
